Record on iPhone outside the Participate app

An iPhone home screen during a session, with the Participate picture-in-picture window showing REC

The Participate app on iPhone records the participant’s camera and screen while they use the app, which suits web prototypes in its built-in browser. It now keeps recording the camera without a break when the participant leaves the app, so you can test native iPhone apps too.

When the participant switches to another app during a session, a small picture-in-picture window with the Participate hand and REC stays on screen. Tapping it takes them back to the session. This needs iOS 18 or later. The Live Activity on iPhone also shows the session timer on the lock screen and in the Dynamic Island.
